What does CAP do?

The CAP Newsletter comes out three times a year (September, February and June). It carries news items and occasional longer articles. It keeps members and friends of CAP in touch. It is available in hard copy or electronically.

CAP holds conferences where ideas and practical experiences can be shared and compared. Papers presented at these events, together with longer articles from the Newsletter are published.

CAP has links with its members, with other professional associations, and with non-governmental organisations involved in the struggle to improve human settlements, to alleviate poverty and to move towards sustainable development. CAP welcomes opportunities to participate in activities which bring together planners and communities and /or other professionals.

CAP is developing networks which operate electronically through this web-site and which link members with shared interests. The first network will be the CAP Women and Planning Network. CAP is developing CAPNOPS, the CAP Network of Planning Schools. A further network on Responses to Informal Settlements is planned, as well as one on Planning in Small Islands.

How to join CAP

Membership of CAP is currently only open to institutes of professional planners in Commonwealth countries, or countries temporarily withdrawn from the Commonwealth. We are considering other forms of membership - for example, for individuals or other organisations.

If your organisation is interested in joining CAP, please contact annette.odonnell@rtpi.org.uk.

The current annual membership fee is £1(UK Sterling) per member of your institute.
