A book to celebrate our 50th Anniversary will soon be published. Planning, Sustainable Urbanisation, and the Commonwealth: The Commonwealth Association of Planners, Past, Present and Future records unique first-hand accounts from Commonwealth planners of the progress of modern planning over the last 50 years. It looks at the emergence of sustainable urbanisation and the key role that CAP played in this. And it examines what might happen over the next 50 years.


Malaysia and New Zealand Triumph in the 2021 CAP Awards for Planning Excellence in the Commonwealth

As part of this year’s 50th anniversary celebrations the results of the 2021 CAP award for planning excellence were announced at the City Expo Malaysia on 8th November 2021. The ceremony was led by CAP President Eleanor Mohammed.

CAP Awards including Commonwealth Young Planner of the year Shortlist Announced

The shortlists have been announced for the CAP Awards for Outstanding Planning Achievement in the Commonwealth and for the Commonwealth Young Planners of the year 2021. The shortlisted entries span the Commonwealth including entries from Canada ,India, Malaysia, Nigeria and New Zealand .
The winners will be announced on 8th November 2021 at the City Expo Malaysia.


Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work 2022 - Call for Nominations

It is my distinct honour to be the newly appointed Secretary-General and Trustee for the Commonwealth Association of Planners as we embark upon our 50th Anniversary. Congratulations to all that have contributed to this hallmark event and all the extraordinary work that has been accomplished over the years. I particularly want to recognize Clive Harridge our out-going Secretary-General for his 10 years of service. Through his leadership, our organization is in a strong position and ready to seize the opportunities ahead.


Message from Clive Harridge on Stepping Down as CAP Secretary-General

I am delighted to welcome Kelley Moore to the role of CAP Secretary–General. Kelley was appointed by CAPs Executive Committee in April and she formally took over the role on the 1 May 2021. Kelley has excellent credentials for the role and I wish her every success.
I would like to use this opportunity to briefly reflect on my time as CAP Secretary- General over the past 10 years and to thank those who helped me over the years.


Call to Action on Sustainable Cities

On 2nd February, CAP joined partner associations in launching a Call to Action on sustainable urbanisation across the Commonwealth.
The Call to Action has been produced jointly by CAP, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Commonwealth Architects Association and the Commonwealth Local Government Forum, working in association with the Princes Foundation.


CAP Business Meeting Elects New President

At its biennial Business Meeting on 23rd – 25th November 2020, the CAP membership elected Eleanor Mohammed of Canada as its new President. Eleanor has worked alongside the outgoing President, Dyan Currie for the past six years in her role as President of CIP/ICU, the Canadian Institute of Planners. Eleanor is CAP’s first Canadian President. Congratulations to Eleanor!
